Wearing White After Labor Day

Can You Wear White After Labor Day?!?

Fashion / February 2, 2021

One might ask if the rules of wearing white after Labor Day still apply- the answer is no. In my opinion you can throw the rule book out the window! Believe it or not there is actually a story behind why you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day.

In the 19th Century, high society women used “rules” to distinguish themselves from old money and new money. Following these rules meant you were “In”. When Labor Day became a Federal Holiday, it also became a time when you would put your summer whites away. So, if you were in the “In” crowd you knew come Labor Day, to put your white clothing away; even if the temps were still high!

Now that I’ve given you a history lesson, ha-ha, I’ll explain why I wear them all year round. I think whites are timeless and you can easily transform your summer whites into winter whites. Although, I’m currently in Florida, and it’s warm enough to wear white jeans with wedges, you can still pair them with boots or booties in the winter!

Top: Free People Bell Sleeve Top (wearing size XS), Cream Version l Jeans: H&M Culotte (similar item HERE and HERE) l Wedges: See by Chloe (also HERE) l Sunglasses: Old from ASOS, similar HERE l Earrings & Ring: The Styled Collection, Hoops + Ring l White Skinny Jeans: Express l White Oversized Sweater: Amazon l Boots: Steve Madden Showbiz Tall Brown Boots l Hat: Felt Fedora from Red Dress Boutique l Shorts: Levi’s (wearing size 26) & HERE

I’m soo soo in love with these H&M high waisted, culotte jeans. They have brought them back every season the last few years. I’ve had this particular pair for a few years now and they are easily one of my go to pieces. I love the wide leg on the bottom. I have a curvier lower half, and feel like these always even out my proportions!

For a more winterized look, I paired it with this super cute Free People Bell Sleeve Top. I love everything about this Blouse. It’s a thicker material but not quite a sweater. It has a v-shaped open- back. It’s cropped without being too cropped. The neckline is a higher boat neck style, which I think is super flattering. It also just went on sale! And believe me this brand never goes on sale! I love this top so much, I ended up getting it in cream also. Its just so fabulous, can be worn in the summer as well with these shorts.

To top this outfit off, I added these chunky See by Chloe Wedges. I love the fringe but they also come in a cute neutral brown color for a more simplistic look. I actually purchased mine on poshmark! However, click these links of sites with these available in stock!

Like I said earlier you can easily wear white jeans with booties or boots. An example of how to style white jeans in winter would be; pairing a white oversized sweater, with white skinny jeans like these and tall brown boots like these. Add a brown fedora and you are good to go!!! This outfit is so chic and stylish and guaranteed to stand out in a crowd. If you follow me on Instagram (@kate.huggs) you know these brown tall boots are a huge favorite of mine. They look sooo good with everything, an easy go to item in any closet!
